The Travels of Raggedy Ann is Hall Anderson's second book of photography, and features the classic child's toy in unusual settings. Anderson originally found the doll in 1979. She was lying in tall grass, outside an abandoned farmhouse in Oregon's Willamette Valley. Shortly after, he began taking portraits of friends holding Raggedy, and was soon carrying her with him whenever he travelled. The book chronicles several trips, mostly to Paris, Norway, and London, taken by the pair from the mid-1990s to 2004. In 2023, good friend and renowned artist, Ray Troll, urged Anderson to use his images to create this book, and offered to serve as photo editor. Another close friend, and former Ketchikan Daily News colleague, Alice Friedel, agreed to do the book design. Anderson's wife, Terri Robbins, worked as text editor and wrote many of the captions. Team in place, the book was completed in less than a year.
